Trade Underlay Fitters

Laminate flooring is an enticing floor covering choice for living rooms, bedrooms, home offices and other areas of a house or commercial place that retains low moisture. However, there are other types of floors like solid hardwood, vinyl, and tile, all of which require no underlayment. For laminate flooring of any living space, the installation of underlayment beneath the flooring should be done by professional underlay fitters.

What is Laminate Underlayment?

Laminate underlayment consists of a soft pad installed under laminate flooring. The underlayment helps the laminate planks lay smoother, connect better, and for the flooring to feel slightly softer underfoot. Either you purchase pre-attached underlayment to the bottom of the laminate flooring, or you need to hire trade underlay fitters to install them separately.

Steps to Install Laminate Underlayment

  • The underlayment comes with a plastic strip on one end that covers through the wall, underlying the baseboard, and the other end has a strip of adhesive tape. Our professional underlay fitters ensure that the two white sides are closer, lying one over the other, tacked down, and runs in the same direction of the flooring. Post this; you need to run the underlayment next to the longest wall.
  • Trade underlay fitters now peel back the covering of the adhesive tape on the first sheet and smooth the plastic edge of the second sheet down onto the tape of the first sheet. Continue this process around the room until they cover the floor, with only a small gap between the walls and the underlayment. Do not forget the remove the extra portions.
  • Each board has a tongue and a groove side. The tongue side is the smaller that sticks out from the board. Cut off the tongue on the long side and short side when installing boards in the corners. It makes a better corner and gives a place to start work and build outward.
  • If the carpet or the other floor coverings need repairing, then the trade carpet fitters are there to fix that like a pro.
  • Now attach the spacers. Ensure to protect the face and use a shorter piece when starting with the subsequent rows.
  • Put the planks into place.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How to install an underlayment?

Answer: Install plywood underlayment on a dry subfloor. Inspect the subfloor for evenness along joints and flatness between joists. When necessary, sand the subfloor near joints, install extra blocking and re-fasten the subfloor to flatten uneven areas.

2. Do I need to nail down underlayment?

Answer: Yes, you need to nail down the underlayment. While nailing your underlayment, ensure using shorter nails. Lay the underlayment on the floor joints. Do not line up the underlayment seams and subfloor seams together. Stagger the underlayment at least a couple of inches with the subfloor seams.

3. What will happen if I do not use underlayment for laminate flooring?

Answer: If you do not install underlayment, your laminate flooring has a high chance of getting damaged or ruined. You need to install the underlayment on some floors for the warranty to be valid.

4. Do all laminate flooring need underlayment?

Answer: Underlayment is not an option. Some laminate flooring planks come with underlayment. However, if your laminate planks do not have attached underlayment, you need to use an underlayment.
